The Kenya Hockey Union has unveiled a 36 person squad of both men and women to represent the country in the Africa Cup of Nations tournament, which will be held in Ismailia, Egypt, from October 11 to 18, 2025.
Speaking at the City Park Stadium in Nairobi, the president of the Kenya Hockey Union, Nahashon Randiek, confirmed the selected 18 players for each of the men's and women's teams. He described the announcement as a milestone in Kenya’s preparations to reclaim its place among Africa’s hockey powerhouses.
The coach also stated that the team blends experienced figures and includes several players who shone for Kenya at the Africa U21 tournament in Namibia.
"We have included a number of U-21s who participated in Namibia. As we take part in this tournament, we are looking at the short and long-term development of the team, Randiek said.
According to Randiek, a place at the Olympic Games is vital to the country and is a mission that the Kenya Hockey Union KHU is engaged in actively. It will integrate youthful talent as a deliberate strategy aimed at building depth for future competitions, including the African Games and the Olympic qualifiers.
"We are targeting the African Games and the Olympics. We have to look at a four-year training program that is in line with our strategic plan, and that begins with this tournament," he added.
The teams are set to depart for Egypt between the eighth and the ninth of October.
